What is 60 @ 1600?

This April, our congregation will mark 60 years of ministry at 1600 12th Street. In 1957, after the sanctuary burned at the Holland Avenue property, the church located at this site. The first service in the new church was held on April 14 and the formal opening was on Sunday, April 21. The buildings on campus at that time were the sanctuary, fellowship hall, the parsonage, and a scout hut.

I wonder how many church services, weddings, funerals, baptisms have been held here for 60 years? We have had scout meetings, Sunday School, MYF, UMM, and UMW gatherings. People have grown in Christ here and the faith has been transmitted here. Yet, God is not finished with us yet! Our heritage is but a foundation for our call to God’s glorious call to the future.

Starting on Easter Sunday, April 16th, we will observe 60 @ 1600. We will kick off a five week celebration that will end on May 21 as we receive our confirmation class into full membership. Save the date of April 30 for a special worship service and luncheon afterward; as the dates draw closer, look for more information in the church bulletin, newsletter, and website.

Grace and Peace,
